The Oakland Raiders and Alta Bates Summit Foundation hosted the 14th annual ‘Play like a Pro’ event at the Oakland Coliseum on Saturday, October 30. It was an exciting and unique afternoon of fun. Over the past fourteen years, the combined efforts of the Oakland Raiders and Alta Bates Summit Medical Center has raised over $250,000 to benefit breast cancer screenings for low-income and uninsured women in the community through Alta Bates Summit’s Markstein Cancer Education Program.

The afternoon started with a barbeque lunch and then a short program with Raiders correspondent, Jeanette Thompson. Attendees were introduced to Raiders Legends: Robert Jenkins, Vance Mueller, Kenny Shedd, and Hall of Famers Willie Brown and Rod Woodson. They also had a treat by meeting and taking photos of Raiders players and coaches: Strength and Conditioning Coach Brad Roll, Bruce Gradkowski, Kamerion Wimbley, Mario Henderson and Louis Murphy, who spoke about his mother’s experience with breast cancer. Raffle and silent auction winners were Gary R. Reed, Gloria Diaz, Louis Costa, Sr., Ryan Del Los Reyes, Sergio Angel, and David Laughlin.

Oakland Raiders players and coaches taught the ins and outs of the game – right on the Raiders playing field with drills, rules, plays and strategies. Attendees also received an exclusive backstage tour of the player’s locker room at the Coliseum.

Alta Bates Summit and the Raiders have enjoyed an immensely successful partnership over the last 13 years in the fight against breast cancer. A check presentation will occur on the field at the November 7 game between the Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.
