2010 Celebrity Golf & Tennis Classic
The 19th annual Alta Bates Summit Foundation Celebrity Classic was an all-around success, raising funds for Alta Bates Summit Medical Center’s program for youth, Thunder Road, a life-changing recovery program for drug and alcohol abuse for youth and their families.
Thunder Road is a model program, and the only integrated adolescent inpatient, residential, and intensive outpatient behavioral health care program in California for youth and their families. Thunder Road is also one of the few programs to regularly offer scholarships to youth whose families lack the resources or public assistance to pay for treatment. Since opening its doors in 1987, Thunder Road has helped more than 6,000 kids and their families.
The 2010 Celebrity Classic was, once again, an exciting and fun event. The popular golf tournament was held at the beautiful Diablo County Club on September 20. The Celebrity Pro/Am tennis tournament, at the historic Berkeley Tennis Club on October 2, featured headliners Martina Navratilova and Gigi Fernandez. Media celebrities and local tennis pros played doubles throughout the day with sponsored players. The Classic finale was “Casino Royale” at the Claremont Resort. Guests experienced the thrill and excitement of casino gaming, dancing, fine wine and dined on a delicious variety of international cuisine.
The dates for the 2011 Classic have already been reserved so mark your calendars: golf and tennis on September 19 at Blackhawk Country Club.
Celebrity Classic Helps Thunder Road
The 19th annual Alta Bates Summit Foundation Celebrity Classic was an all-around success, raising funds for Thunder Road.
At the golf tournament, celebrities that took swings and putted for birdies included: former NBA player John Lambert, actor Tony Plana, and former MLB player Matt Young.

Headliners for this year’s Tennis Classic at the Berkeley Tennis Club on Saturday, October 2 were Martina Navratilova and Gigi Fernandez. The Celebrity Pro/Am tennis tournament featured media celebrities and local pros playing doubles throughout the day with sponsored players. The Classic finale was a gala at the Claremont Resort & Spa on Saturday evening.
Tennis winners were: Howard Turnley, Jim Heldman, Melinda Black, John Lambert, Brad Eigan and Sherry Benninger.
