Cal Pink Zone for Breast Cancer

Basketball and breast cancer were the themes for the 2nd annual fundraising event at UC Berkeley on Thursday, February 19. More than 2,500 attended the Cal Women’s Basketball game against the Oregon Ducks and all received Pink Zone tee-shirts. The event chose to help raise money and awareness for the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center
, which will celebrate its first anniversary in April.
The Alta Bates Summit Foundation and the Cal Athletics Women’s Department joined forces for the third annual “Pink Zone Night” to help raise awareness and dollars for breast cancer. The fundraising event was held at UC Berkeley on Thursday, February 18 at 7:00 pm – Cal vs Oregon State at the Haas Pavilion.
The 3rd annual event benefited the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center, the first comprehensive breast center in the East Bay, which was built largely through donor generosity. Staffed by breast health specialists using a personal team approach, the Center cares for over 500 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer each year – more than either of the two nearby university hospitals. Advanced digital mammography is performed and evaluated on-site, speeding results to patients and physicians and offering, when necessary, the quickest possible treatment. Other valuable assets: all exam and procedure rooms are spacious and wheelchair accessible and multi-lingual patient navigator is available to help women through all aspects of understanding breast health.

Attendees wearing pink that night and received a $3.00 admission and also received a FREE Pink Zone t-shirt and mini stuffed bear courtesy of Bank of the West.
Criselle Cahayag, from the Alta Bates Summit Foundation, had her talented younger sister, April Labson, sing the National Anthem.
At halftime, a giant check from Bank of the West was presented to representatives of the Foundation, amidst cameras flashing.
The night was a victory all around for the medical center and for Cal, because the Golden Bears remained in third place in the Pac-10 standings after defeating the Oregon State Beavers, 66-62, with DeNesha Stallworth’s game-high score of 19 points.
Join the fun and help advance the fight against breast cancer! Go Bears!
